About KC Council 945
Owatonna Council 945 was founded in 1904 by a group of forty men. Its membership has grown to more than 600. Owatonna Council 945 works closely with St. Joseph's and Sacred Heart parishes, providing funds for various projects. Council members are active participants in their parishes.
The KC Hall is located at 820 S Elm, just a few blocks from St. Joseph's and Sacred Heart Catholic Churches. The Grand Knight for 2009-2010 is Bill Lawrence. He can be contacted at kofc945@smig.net
Council meetings are held second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 pm at the KC Hall.
Each year, over 7,000 hours of volunteer time is donated and financial support is provided by Owatonna Council 945 to a wide range of local groups and projects. Some of the projects include: Benefit Breakfasts and Spaghetti Suppers for Boy Scouts, people with developmental disabilities, St. Mary’s Music and Sports Boosters, St. Mary’s Home and School Association. The proceeds from the Wildlife Benefit Banquet and Auction are committed to environmental, wildlife, and outdoor projects, such as the Leo Rudolph Nature Reserve, soccer fields, and softball fields. The children’s Halloween Party is held for all children in the community. The KC Basketball Free Throw contest is open to all children ages 10-14. People with developmental disabilities receive the proceeds from the Tootsie Roll fundraiser and are guests at a special Christmas Party.
A message from the Grand Knight
Greetings Brother Knights,
Another Steele County Free Fair has passed us by, with a chance to
see the finest that our county has to offer. I hope everyone had a
chance to visit the KC stand to have a brat and say hello to the
Knights who volunteered. Hundreds of hours are spent planning,
setting up, serving, and tearing down our booth, as well as serving at
the Grandstand. Although the weather hampered attendance, the
Knights continued to volunteer their time and raise money for local
efforts. A huge thank you to all, especially Frank Conley and Al
Nelson who served as Co-Chairs for this year's Fair.
August also meant we had our annual Tootsie Roll picnic. Once
again, our volunteer efforts netted over $6,000 that was given to local
agencies and services that focus on developmental disabilities. We
continue to support Cedar Valley Services, Rainbow Residence,
Special Olympics, and the Therapeutic Recreation Department of the
City of Owatonna in their efforts to serve the developmentally
disadvantaged. Big thanks to our Co-Chairs Kevin Boettcher and Al
Nelson for all their work, and special thanks to all those who helped
with the food prep and clean-up at our last general meeting at Gainey Park.
Looking forward, on September 9, we have our 1st Degree
Exemplification. This is another opportunity for you to ask that friend,
family member, or neighbor to join the KCs. The first Benefit Breakfast
will be held on September 13, benefiting St. Isidore's School of
Litomysl. And on September 20, our annual Family Picnic will be held
at the Morehouse Park pavilion. Sure hope you can make it.
